So, why?

One hundred years ago, 6 countries competed to be
The first to fly around the world.
The United Kingdom, France, Italy, Portugal, Argentina, and the United States.
Was it possible?
Who would be first?
Were they nuts?
The 4 American planes left from Seattle April 6,1924.
Only 2 planes returned to Seattle, September 28, 1924,
Winning the race.
Theirs is an unimaginable story of
Daily challenge, complex logistics,
Out-of-the-box problem solving,
A battle of man vs. nature, extreme weather,
Complex navigation, cultural differences
Good sportsmanship and kindness.
It is a story of unmitigated courage.
Ultimately, it is a story of our common humanity,
Of man’s kindness to one another, and
The feats we can achieve when
We work together with a goal to advance the world.
Seattle’s Sand Point, now NOAA & Magnuson Park,
Marks the home of world and aviation history.
